Upson County Board of Commissioners
We welcome the opportunity to work with Upson County, Georgia. As reported in the Upson Beacon: Upson County commissioners voted unanimously last week to approve an economic impact study at Sprewell Bluff Park to determine pros and cons of proposed improvements made available through a Georgia Outdoor Sponsorship Program grant.
In January 2020, Randy had the honor of moderating a discussion, “The Future of Georgia Sports,” at the annual Georgia Sports meeting hosted in Augusta, Georgia.
Georgia Group Sales Symposium presented by Georgia Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus and Southeast Tourism Society
Randy joined Ann Hortmann, Director of Rome Sports, and Rob Wells, Director of the Savannah Sports Council, for a sports market discussion on recruitment and services. This presentation shared how sports events have a major community impact, and provided guidance on how tourism professionals could working in tandem with sports commissions/councils and other agencies to facilitate sports tourism in their communities.
Pikes Peak Outdoor Recreation Alliance
In the fall of 2019, PPORA asked Sports Strategies to develop the Pikes Peak APEX. Since, we have worked with them to produce, market and deliver this world-class event in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Nebraska Tourism Commission
At the 2019 Nebraska State Tourism Conference, Randy was asked to lead a roundtable discussion on sports tourism for Sports Nebraska and a breakout session titled Sports Tourism is Economic Development.
Following, the North Platte Telegraph wrote: Sports tourism strong even in recessions, speaker at Nebraska Tourism Conference says.
Augusta University MS Center
Sports Strategies was hired by the Augusta MS Center to develop a multi-sport event that could serve as a marketing platform for the center to raise awareness and funds to support the Augusta University Foundation.
The event was named Own the Woods and held in 2019. Sports Strategies oversaw all elements of the event including marketing, PR, and operations. Leading up to the event local media included:
Thomson-McDuffie County Convention & Visitors Bureau
Sports Strategies is proud to work with the leadership of Visit Thomson, Georgia to promote sports tourism.
Following the release of the strategic plan, we facilitated the development of a Sports Advisory Committee to recruit sports tournaments and events. In 2019, the community hosted the Augusta Gaelic Sports “Azalea Cup” hurling competition. One of the participating teams is pictured here.
Sports Strategies enjoyed the opportunity to visit Concord, California and collaborate with the CVB team to develop a strategic plan for sports tourism that would fulfill the City's plan of developing a sports complex.
Athens Convention & Visitors Bureau
Being in Athens, Georgia and working with this passionate team was a fantastic experience for Sports Strategies. As a result of the assessment and recommendations, they held their first meeting about enacting the plan in the spring of 2019.
Forward Rabun/Rabun County Tourism Development Authority
Seeing the many hidden assets in Rabun County, Georgia was a special experience, as was working with the TDA team to launch a sports tourism initiative for the County and work with them to recruit viable events to the area.
SC Sports Alliance
As a prelude to the 2018 South Carolina Governors Tourism Conference, Randy was invited to present information substantiating the value of sports tourism to the South Carolina Sports Alliance in Myrtle Beach, SC.
The SCSA is a group of South Carolina sports commissions and CVBs which work collectively to promote the state as a sports tourism destination.
Southeast Biking Symposium
In 2017 and 2018, Randy was invited to present at the Southeast Biking Symposium on Hilton Head Island and talk about using bicycle events to build community and brand destinations for cycling tourism.
National Recreation and Park Association
Randy was invited to the 2018 NRPA Annual Conference in Indianapolis to lead a session focused on supporting sports tourism for economic development.
Georgia Recreation and Parks Association
In November 2018, Randy was invited to the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association Annual Meeting in Jekyll Island and asked to speak about “Supporting Sports Tourism.” He followed up with an additional presentation at the GRPA Committee and Board meeting.
Northeast Georgia Mountains Regional Travel Association
A session with the Travel Association focused on the benefits of sports tourism in Dahlonega, Georgia at the Northeast Georgia Mountains Regional Travel Association, an organization comprised of CVBs and attractions that work collaboratively to promote the northeast region of Georgia.
